Welcome to my journal! Feel free to read, to friend, to be yourself. All I ask is that you treat me and the people in the comments with respect.

I also have an art journal, [livejournal.com profile] art_at_large, in which I post stuff about the art I do. I don't update it as often as I do this one, but it sort of goes in fits and starts.

I may or may not add you to my reading list. If I don't it's probably because I've looked at your journal and it didn't seem like something I would want to read. Sometimes it's because there's nothing but memes, sometimes it just doesn't capture my interest. If your journal is primarily friends-only and you think I'd enjoy your locked entries, by all means drop me a comment and tell me so. Also, if I don't friend right back, please don't take it personally. I have a terrible streak of procrastination in me and it sometimes just takes a while.

So, I think that's that. I do have filtered posts and I have a number of different filters. If I do know you IRL, let me know and I'll put you on that one.

Have fun and thanks for reading.

Lighting glass for photography

Typically, it's best to light glass from behind, or, depending on the background, light the background. That light reflecting from the background defines the glass. To give dark edges to the glass use strips of black card stock just out of frame. To give white edges, white card stock just out of frame. To get rid of reflections, use a circular polarizing filter. It will also enrich any colors, if the glass has color. Another option for some glass and reflective metal to to create a small white translucent tent around the object and light the object through the tent. The lens takes the photo through the front of the "tent".

Shouldn't this go somewhere in my art journal? I know I wrote a fairly long entry about how I photographed my glass for the etsy site.

Of course, you're welcome to come down here and give me some pointers in person...

Hey Nev,
I'm a friend of Marrus who suggested I contact you. She says you're looking for a roommate. I'm moving to NOLA in November. I haven't decided what I wanted, but thought I'd at least check in with you. If you want to email me, I'm at marc at thebards.net . I'll be in NOLA on the 26th to look around a wee bit (but also doing a CD release there).

You can find out more about me at http://www.marcgunn.com/
Slainte!
-Marc

Hi Marc! I'm trying to find someone who will commit to at least a year so that I don't have to go through the hell of room-mate hunting again in a short period of time. I would really like to have someone here as soon as possible.

That said, here's what I have. It's a large apartment with, theoretically, three bedrooms. I say theoretically because the smallest room is really too small to count as a bedroom, in my opinion. The back bedroom, which is the one available, is unfurnished, but the rest of the place is fully furnished. I have two cats, one of whom is terribly shy and the other of whom is very much fixated on me, though he will occasionally accept being petted by others. I recently lost my big sociable cat who loved everyone.

The original rent on this place was $1400, but the landlord has said he'd be willing to adjust that. I have been offering the back room for $600/month, while I would continue to pay $700, as I have the larger room.

If you'd like to talk more about this, you can email me at lafemmecognito (at) yahoo (dot) com. Perhaps we could meet when you come in to town. I'll be leaving for a visit up north on the 29th, so that gives us a few days.

Hmm. Not sure I can commit to a year yet, at present. And I won't be ready until November a the earliest. So mayhaps no for now. Thanks

Just to say hello

Hello intelligentrix,

I just got here this week, to be exact on Wednesday. I am amazed that I didn't find this site before. It seems pretty interesting, a lot more interesting than the usual blogs, and other people sites out there. Well, what can I tell you about me? I am an artist. Thus I thought that since you are into art stuff I should drop you a note.

I haven't written much. I don't even know what to say, know what I mean? Anyhow, this is the first time I am writing anyone here directly.

Take care,
louisianaitis.

Thanks for the introduction, I'll check out your journal. Good luck in the city!

Sterlington, LA

Well, I live in Sterlington, LA not in NOLA
I meant that I got into the web site and didn't know what to say. However, NOLA is my hope, as an artist where people are a bit more free to be themselves. However, I am always myself, lol.

Thanks for replying. I mean it. Thanks!

P.S. I do go to NOLA quite often. Care for a cup of coffee with me one of these days? I am Latin. Thought about telling you that in case if drives you away.

Coffee might be a possibility. I wish your journal had a bit more in it about yourself and your art. What kind do you make? What do you like?

Your ethnicity doesn't drive me away. Does it matter to you that I'm a middle aged Jewish atheist?

So, you are a middle aged Jewish atheist ... aha! Well, I am a Catholic-Protestant atheist ... aha!

Religion has very little importance in my life. In other words, I am quite allergic to religion of any shape, form, or kind.

So, on that one I do believe that we are on the same page.

I just posted an entry about my art, and a bit more about my art "background". Read it when you have a bit of time ;-)

*waves* so good to run into you at Wiscon. I hope your journey home has been safe and as eventful/uneventful as you may have wished for.

I don't get as much time to post here as I'd like, but enjoy this medium for keeping in touch - even when friends' posts are occasional and/or tangential.

Let me know if you head my fair city's way again, and I'll take you out for dinner (or some suitable meal) to catch up.

Hi! It was good to see you at WisCon, too. I'm back in NOLA with no incidents to speak of.

And hey, if you ever get down this way, let me know.

I've added you to my flist. I haven't been in a posting way recently, but I'm hoping that will change.
